VolunteerLA is an online platform and campaign to increase volunteer participation in the City and region. It is a pilot program of the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Legislative and External Affairs and with support from Goldhirsh Foundation, AT&T, Union Bank, and Bank of America. The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles jumpstarts innovative solutions and new ideas that drive civic impact.
Golden powers the VolunteerLA volunteer opportunity search function. It is a for-profit social venture with a mission to make volunteering as effortless and authentic as possible.
Listing Golden Opportunities and recruiting and scheduling volunteers is free for nonprofit organizations. You can set up a Golden account in seconds, and whenever you feel like turning on more advanced features, you can upgrade to them instantly and inexpensively. The difference is in the discovery. VolunteerLA has worked with Golden to present curated, meaningful opportunities near you that you can sign up for instantly. Historically, it’s been pretty hard to figure out where to volunteer, get screened, get trained, get a background check, and schedule times to eventually go volunteer.
We present you with an accurate description of the engagement so that you know what to expect. Even better, Golden’s personalization functionality recommends opportunities based on your interests, friends, pattern of volunteering, location, availability, and more.
We believe that volunteering is one of the most powerful ways to connect and improve a community.
One way that community influencers can do this is to “Share” activities with your friends and family. When you sign up for an Opportunity, click the Share button. People will be able to sign up through that link. Even better, your account will get credit for the volunteering completed due to your influence!
